The Accountant I supports the Controller in maintaining the agency's financial books, producing monthly financial statements, enforcing internal controls, generating accurate invoices, paying agency bills, and preparing the annual agency budget. Provide financial support to internal management team in developing and recording reporting unit budgets.
Location: This position is based out of LifeWorks NW's Sylvan Site in Portland, OR.
Pay/Benefits: $32.13 starting hourly pay, plus Full benefits.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Monthly Close: Prepare and send accurate invoices to various federal, state, county, and city agencies and other grantors as assigned. Make appropriate journal entries in general ledger to recognize revenue. Perform basic revenue and expense variance analysis. Generate monthly account reconciliation for assigned general ledger receivable accounts and follow up with third party funders regarding payment issues. Support distribution of internal management financial reports to appropriate personnel.
- Annual Budget: Create budget templates in preparation of the annual budget for the agency and distribute to Service Directors. Participate in budget reviews with assigned Service Directors and Program Directors and enter final reporting unit budgets in agency financial system of record.
- Run and review standard reports needed for performing variance analysis and responding to questions from managers and funders.
- Complete payor and statutory reports as assigned.
- Maintain and process indirect accounting allocations for internal management reporting purposes.
- Reconcile bank account balances to general ledger.
- Record and reconcile donations.
- Other various accounting projects as needed.
- Travel between sites or in the community as needed.
- Assist with preparing workpapers and gathering information for the annual external audit.
- Check e-mail/voicemail throughout the day and respond appropriately when working.
- Continually increase level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency.
- Complete tasks accurately within defined timeframes with minimal supervision.
- Consistently help cover for co-workers when needed and willingly accept and follow through with other tasks as needed.
- Develop, document, and maintain work instructions for all key responsibilities/
- Complete projects and goals as defined in personnel evaluation.
- Participate in regular individual and team meetings with supervisor. Attend informational meetings which may include staff and team meetings, consultation with other staff, and required trainings.
- Participate in a culture of feedback at the agency by eliciting feedback to promote professional growth and assess work effectiveness
Qualifications:
- Bachelors in accounting or finance or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of GAAP and working knowledge of financial statements.
- Good computer skills including a functional knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to master proprietary software including report writing functions.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently.
- Ability to work well in a fast paced ever-changing work environment
- Ability to perform essential functions of job without creating a direct threat to the safety of self or others.
