Accounting Specialist #1452

The Accounting Specialist supports the Finance Department by performing clerical accounting work in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll/benefits, and general ledger.

Location: This position is based out of LifeWorks NW's Sylvan site. 

Pay/Benefits: $59,854 starting annual salary plus Full benefits.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Process Accounts Payable transactions such as verify coding and back up documentation on check requests, credit card expense reports, and employee out of pocket reimbursements. Research, reconcile, and process various vendor statements. Prepares 1099 and unclaimed property reporting.
  • Process Accounts Receivable transactions such as review daily batches, prepare invoices, post incoming deposits, and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Reviews, codes, and verifies transactions and journal entries. Researches and resolves issues.
  • Assists with general ledger accounting & monthly close. Prepares journal entries, reconciles general and subsidiary ledger accounts including petty cash, and other accounts as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining internal controls and conducting periodic audits to test controls in various areas such as cash receipts, disbursements, corporate credit cards, and petty cash.
  • Monitor group email inbox and respond to inquiries
  • Assist with annual audit including preparation of various financial reports and other requests as assigned.
  • Assist Accountants with grants/contracts, fixed assets and contributions accounting.
  • Other various accounting projects as needed.
  • Travel between sites or in the community as needed.
  • Access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts.
  • Develop, document, and maintain work instructions for all key responsibilities
  • Completes projects and goals as defined in personnel evaluation.
  • Operates basic office machines including scanner, copier, fax, typewriter and adding machine.
  • Check e-mail/voice mail throughout the day when working.
  • Complies with federal, state, and agency policies, procedures and regulations
  • Continually increases level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency.
  • Completes tasks accurately within defined timeframes with minimal supervision.
  • Consistently helps cover for co-workers when needed and willingly accepts and follows through with other tasks as needed.
  • Meets standards for attendance following the department's call-in policy for any unscheduled absences.
  • Participates in regular individual and team meetings with supervisor. Attends informational meetings which may include all staff and team meetings, consultation with other staff and required trainings.
  • Participate in a culture of feedback at the agency by eliciting feedback to promote professional growth and assess work effectiveness.

Qualifications: 

  • Associates degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles; minimum 1-year prior experience working in financially related position.
  • Good computer skills including a working knowledge of Excel and functional knowledge of
  • Outlook and Word. Ability to master proprietary software. Ability to use 10-key.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Good mathematical background.
  • Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced ever-changing work environment.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of job without creating a direct threat to the safety of self or others.

Working Conditions

The Accounting Specialist will work in an office setting that is out of the elements with potential for some hybrid/remote work. This position requires a defined scheduled time, Monday - Friday, with the flexibility to work varied hours; possibly working weekends or evenings.
