Dual Diagnosis Evaluator, Department of Community Justice 274 - HIRING BONUS

LifeWorks NW partners with Multnomah County Department of Community Justice (DCJ). 

The Dual Diagnosis Evaluator conducts basic dual diagnosis evaluations for individuals involved with the DCJ at multiple probation offices in Portland and Gresham as well as inside of two jails located in Portland. 

Collaboration - our clients are: 

1. The probation officers seeking an evaluation for their client 

2. The client that we are evaluating. Our role is to consider both clients in our recommendation that addresses potential treatment for the client that we are evaluating and that addresses community safety. 

Pay/Benefits: $1,000 sign-on bonus for this position. $51,040 to $55,506 per year. Full benefits

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Receives referrals from probation officers to provide assessments for clients within the Multnomah County DCJ system.
  • Conducts Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug assessments in accordance with DSM V and ASAM criteria
  • Coordinates with Lifeworks NW Rockwood Site Administrators.
  • Coordinates with probation officers and community resources providing referrals for services to clients.
  • Document and maintain client records to ensure compliance with agency and contract guidelines and confidentiality.  Completes documentation as required within the DCJ system.
  • Gather and maintain data for program monitoring and evaluation purposes.
  • Check e-mail/voice mail throughout the day when working responding appropriately.
  • Develop and provide training to probation officers regarding issues of mental health, addiction and behavior management as it relates to clients.
  • Provides consultation to probation Officers regarding client needs including evaluation reports and other issues as they arise.
  • Good computer skills including a functional knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to master use of proprietary software including electronic health record system.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Meets performance standards for productivity, documentation (including progress notes, assessments, treatment plans and authorization requests) proficiency in clinical model and evidence based practices, quality of care (including engagement and retention) and teamwork as defined in the Performance Review.

  • Participate in regular individual and team meetings with team lead and supervisor.  Attend informational and clinical meetings which may include all staff and team meetings, consultation with other staff and required trainings. 


  • Master's degree in area of specialization directly related to work performed with prior experience working with persons experiencing substance use disorder.
  • This position requires a QMHP credential either through the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBOor by obtaining and maintaining active internship or licensed with an eligible state licensing board. All prospective candidates must either have a valid MHACBO registration number or licensing intern number upon hire. 
  • CADC1 required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire through MHACBO.
  • Broad range of clinical interventions and mental health assessment specific to the client population.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct an assessment, including identifying precipitating events, gathering histories of mental and physical health, alcohol and other drug use, past mental health services and criminal justice contacts, assessing family, social and working relationships and conducting a mental status examination; complete a DSM 5 diagnosis; complete an ASAM; complete an Assessment Note; enter chronological information in legal records daily.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to provide culturally-competent treatment services to diverse client populations.
  • Good computer skills including a functional knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word.  Ability to master proprietary software including electronic health record system.
  • Must be able to pass a DHS background check through LifeWorks NW and a Mulnomah County background check.
