Director of Marketing & Communications #343

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the development and execution of marketing and communications strategy/plans that engage and empower employees; increase recruitment and retention; and build the engagement of clients, donors and community partners. The Director of Marketing and Communications' primary responsibility is to support the goals and objectives of the organization and manage the Marketing & Communications staff. The position also works in collaboration with Fund Development, HR and the executive team. The Director reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Location: This position is based out of LifeWorks NW's Sylvan site. 

Pay/Benefits:  $88,539 starting annual salary, plus Full benefits

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, develop, execute and maintain internal and external marketing/communications strategies.
  • Manage and supervise Marketing & Communications team.
  • Manage all news content on employee intranet, external newsletters, social media and external website-including articles, blogs, videos and posts.
  • Support a variety of internal communications that support company initiatives, particularly those that relate to staff engagement, retention, and equity & diversity.
  • Write several company and employee stories weekly (notable achievements, milestones, operational changes and success stories).
  • Coach senior staff and Marketing team in effective communication both internally and externally.
  • Draft speeches and key talking points for senior management and the President and CEO, upon request.
  • Manage creation, production and dissemination of printed publications for marketing; write content for development and administration purposes (such as newsletters, impact report, program brochures, ads, and event materials and videos).
  • Maintain brand fidelity based on established stylebook and guidelines as well as ensure appropriate voice, graphics, videos and photograph files.
  • Actively manage and monitor LifeWorks NW media and online reputation. Address issues/crises as needed in partnership with executive staff.
  • As needed, perform additional tasks to support the effective operation of a non-profit organization.
  • Check e-mail/voicemail throughout the day when working, responding to contacts and meeting internal/external deadlines.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends required.
  • Serve as an effective member of the team in completing tasks as assigned toward planning, implementing and hosting successful fundraising events and campaigns throughout the year.
  • Participate in a culture of feedback at the agency by eliciting feedback to promote professional growth and assess work effectiveness.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in corporate or nonprofit communications, public relations environment, including project leadership experience.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; ability to articulate complex topics clearly and accurately.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to internal and external communications project from inception to delivery.
  • Must be familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, Mail Chimp, Hootsuite, etc., and experienced in supervising video, photography, print and digital production.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, detail oriented, problem solving focused, self-directed, team focused and results oriented.
  • Proven experience with organizational change, corporate reputation management, brand reinforcement, internal stakeholder engagement and crisis communication.
  • Requires demonstrated project management and strong organization skills and the flexibility to manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Requires ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
