LifeWorks NW's Promotora Program connects families to community resources while offering individual parenting strategies and parenting classes. The program offers in-home services to Latino families with children pre-natal to 12 years of age.

The Promotora position provides outreach to the Latino community to help community members access services and improve parenting skills for families with children in the 0 to 12 age range. Serves as a bridge between the early childhood behavioral healthcare system and parents, child care providers, educators and other community agencies.  Provides parent education, case management, and outreach services.  Activities take place in a home visit or community environment.

Location:  This is based out of LifeWorks NW's Beaverton site.

Status: Regular, full-time, non-exempt 

Pay/Benefits:  $17.02 to $18.30 hourly, plus full comprehensive benefits

Essential Responsibilities:  (Must be able to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.)

  • Collects supplementary information needed to assist client, such as medical records, or school reports.
  • Conduct family, parenting, and group trainings sessions based on current evidenced based practices using "Incredible Years" and "Make Parenting a Pleasure" curriculums.
  • Prepares and provides information to parents or community partners regarding parenting skills, community resources, developmental milestones, age appropriate behaviors, etc.
  • Responsible for case management.  Coordinates/collaborates with physicians, staff, families, caregivers, and teachers to address concerns and implement solutions.
  • Works with families on identifying strengths and uses the identified strengths to develop and achieve action plan goals.
  • Provides interventions based on families' interests, abilities, strengths and needs, according to the action plan.
  • Uses program outcome measures as assigned.
  • Maintain awareness of culturally appropriate community referral resources and provides referrals to clients and their families. 
  • Consults with supervisor on cases involving potential domestic or child abuse or other family problems affecting clients' development.
  • Maintains chart notes related to external contracts, obtains pertinent records from other treatment and track client's involvement, follow-through and progress in varied treatment activities. Documents and maintains client records to ensure compliance with agency and contract guidelines and confidentiality. Completes documentation in electronic health record system.
  • Required to complete critical incident reports when indicated within 24 hours of a critical incident.
  • Provides training to community partners, caregivers, and families regarding issues of mental health, addiction and behavior management as it relates to clients.
  • Acts as client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Meets performance standards for productivity, documentation, quality (including engagement and evidence based practices), and teamwork.
  • Continually increases level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency. 
  • Participates in regular individual and team meetings with supervisor.  Attends informational and clinical meetings which may include all-agency meetings, team meetings, intra-agency trainings, and completes online training courses as assigned.
  • Checks e-mail/voice mail daily/throughout the day when working responding to contacts within 48 hours  for routine matter (urgent matters may require a more immediate response)
  • Travels between sites or in the community.

Qualifications:  (Equivalent education and/or experience may be substituted for qualifications.  Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities.  To perform this job successfully, the employee will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each task proficiently.)

  • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish required. Native Spanish speakers preferred. 
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to provide culturally-competent services to diverse client populations and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Latino cultural values and norms, knowledge of acculturation and generational issues within the Latino community. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of resources and appropriate support linkage available within the Latino community
  • Previous experience in early childhood settings is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing case management services and compliance with confidentially in accordance with federal, state and/or funding source requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn about community resources and treatment agencies enabling appropriate referrals for specific client needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word.  Ability to master proprietary software including electronic health record system required.
  • Requires access to a car and a valid driver's license.
